Tata Steel Europe raises carbon surcharge on higher costs of ETS2021-07-30
Tata Steel Europe recently adjusted the carbon surcharge from €12/ton to €16/ton due to a hike in the cost of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) quotas.
Tata Group has imposed a surcharge since April. The firm was the first company to levy such a surcharge in the new contract. However, it was expected that other suppliers will soon follow this suit.
The current ETS price is around €50~55/ton in the EU. The European Commission intended to reduce the free quota of ETS, further raising the market concerns about the price of ETS.
